Modern Warfare 2 at DEVASTATION!
By · CommentsWe are finally able to announce that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be at DEVASTATION 2010!

For those of you who know, this game is not the most LAN-friendly title out-of-the-box but we now have all of our LAN Xbox 360s maxed out at Level 10 Prestige with EVERYTHING unlocked… perks, classes, weapons, attachments; you name it and we have it ready to go.
So, the big question: What tournaments should we run?!
We will run 4v4 (four player versus four player) team tournaments on three different game modes and we need YOUR help to decide what those three modes are. Yes, for those that were paying attention we just said we will run three, 4v4 Modern Warfare 2 tournaments at DEVASTATION! We have a pretty good idea of what we want to run but we want you – the player’s – feedback, it is your event afterall.
Now, registration is not open for the game yet, as we have not solidified the game modes, and the three 4v4s are probably not the only events we will run on MW2. Yes, we are crafty like that… We will post the final game modes and rules in about a week to give the poll (see below) some time to circulate.
The poll below has all the multi-player game modes listed, select your top three picks and cast your vote:
Thanks much for your participation – more details are coming soon.
The Perfect Valentine’s Day Gift
By · Comments
Sure, anyone can pick up some roses and candy but do you want to be original? You want something your Valentine will remember? What better way to make that lasting impression than to sign you and your Valentine up for a trip to DEVASTATION?
Think about it for a second.
A trip to Phoenix, Arizona… staying at the beautiful Hyatt Regency Phoenix… candlelight dinner in the Compass Restaurant atop the Hyatt with a 360 degree panoramic view of the Greater Phoenix Area as the restaurant maintains its slow rotation every hour…
Of course, the coup de grace… three days of video games, competitions, and hysteria!
We are no Cupid, but it seems like getting the two of you registered and taking a trip to DEVASTATION is far and away a better idea than the assorted box of chocolates and flowers that will be dead in three days…
The early-bird registration window is closing fast and rates go up $10.00 next week (Monday), so why not get registered now and suprise that special someone with a gift that they will remember for years to come…

Do you have that Killer Instinct?
By · CommentsWe have proven time and again that we are THE event by and for the players; here is one more example of just that:
Killer Instinct will be a tournament event at this year’s DEVASTATION.
We brought out the KI (Killer Instinct’s commonly referred to nickname, in case you were wondering) machine last year as one of the set-ups in our casual play area and people went crazy; KI had players lined up non-stop throughout the entire weekend. Not only did players want the chance to get some matches in but begged and pleaded for us to run a tournament for the game…
You asked for it and you got it.
Here are some quick details for the tournament event but you can always jump to the Game-Specific Rules and Prizes pages to find out more:
- $5.00 entry fee
- Double-elimination
- Arcade version 1.5
- 2nd Place gets $5.00 back
- 1st Place is winner-take-all (minus second place winnings)
Rumor has it that we might even offer a few special events and grudge matches played throughout the weekend and on the Live Broadcast during Sunday’s finals… These, of course, are only rumors so you will just have to wait and see.
Get registered now or, if you have already registered, add the game to your existing registration (we allow edits and additions to any registration): http://www.devastationevent.com/online-registration
Now, knowing what we know about our fans, half of them are ecstatic because they get the chance to compete on a beloved game or just that it is “so cool” that we will have KI there… the other half are asking “What in the world is Killer Instinct?!”. It is okay, it is not your fault your were only four years old when the game came out…
Killer Instinct is a fighting game that was developed by Rare and published by Nintendo and Midway, released first in arcades in 1994 and then on the Super NES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System) almost a year later in 1995, ending with a Game Boy release a few months later again in 1995. Neither of the console/handheld ports were “true” versions of the game due to hardware/memory restrictions; the games had signifigant changes ranging from smaller character sprites to redesigned stages and effects to make it playable on the home releases.
The only subsequent releases were Killer Instinct 2 (KI2) for the arcades in 1996 and Killer Instinct Gold (KI: Gold) for the Nintendo 64 later that same year. While the sequel was well received, Killer Instinct is still considered by many to be the superior title of the series in both overall gameplay and competitive aspects.
Killer Instinct has 11 total playable characters, including the hidden character Eyedol. The game pits two players in a one versus one (1v1) battle to the finish where one character tries to deplete the other’s dual life bars. KI integrates auto-combos, special moves, finishing moves, combo breakers, and ultra-combos (which can lead upwards of 80 or more hits). Many of the moves and string-based combo ideas had been seen before in other fighting-game franchises but KI was one of the first to incorporate them into a single property.
Killer Instinct has had its share of rumors over the years… everything from Killer Instinct 3 to Killer Instinct 1 or 2 coming as DLC (downloadable content) on Xbox Live Arcade to a wholly new property based loosely on the KI system/gameplay. At this point, nothing definitive has been announced for any of the titles, existing or newly developed. With the various companies and IP rights involved, we may never see the existing nor new another title released.

Online Registration is Open
By · CommentsYes, the floodgates are opened and let the registrations begin!
If you want to skip all the niceties, just click here to get right to it:

For those of you that resisted that knee-jerk reactionary click, here are some details for you…
This year we have three registration types: Guests, Players, and VIPs.
- Guests are free to enter and can participate in casual areas and any events that are not Player or VIP-only.
- Player registrations are intended for participants that want to come and compete in any of the officially sanctioned tournament events, there is a fee for this type of registration which can vary from $25 during the early-bird period (until February 14th), to the normal $35, ending at $45, for the last-minute, day-of registrations.
- VIPs are one step up from the Players and are entitled to special access and events througout the event, such as the exclusive Thursday night Private Party. VIP pricing follows the Player model with early, normal, and late-registration fees… here is the pricing: $35, $45, $55.
Which registration to choose?!
I know, it can be difficult… is the VIP really worth it? Do I want to compete or just hang out? Can I register as a Player and not compete in any tournaments?
Tell you what, we have a team of professional event counselors on-hand to help you navigate through the minefield of potential choices… contact us and we will help you through this; we have your back.

Casting Call: Guest Commentators Wanted!
By jedirobb · Comments (0)Have you ever dreamed of being the person up on stage in front of the cameras with a microphone in hand, commentating on a match at a massive gaming event? If the answer is YES, then this may be right up your alley…
So why do we need guest commentators?
The answer is simple: because we want them. We love involving the community and giving you, the fans, the opportunity to share your game knowledge and talent with hundreds of thousands of viewers. Year after year we have proven that we are an organization that puts the community first and this is just another way for us to do just that. Besides, why wouldn’t we want to try and recruit talent from the community? If we do not try and better ourselves we never will…
At this point you are probably wondering “what is involved?” and, perhaps, “how do I get involved?”, well you are luck because we are going to tell you.
We are going to select several members for each game to participate in the broadcast both for back-up reasons (stuff happens, right?) as well as we may be able to develop some synergies between the various commentators. Guest commentators will sit along-side djWHEAT and the Live on Three crew and help commentate on matches, be involved with pre and post-game interviews, special events, and more. If you are selected for the team you will be on the hook to show up and be available for the broadcast… but we will cover those details when we get there; we imagine you would not nominate yourself if you did not want to actually come and take part but stranger things have happened. Know this: if you ask to be considered you are, in fact, committing to take part in the event so if you are not sure you can come it is best that you do not try out.
So, to be considered for the Guest Commentator Team here is what you need to do (requirements):
We have, as of right now, 17 different game titles and 24 or so officially sanctioned events available to broadcast. Here are the games you are able to choose from at this point:
If you are not chosen for a particular game or at all, do not be discouraged, there may have been someone more qualified looking for the same spot. Know in advance that we appreciate you asking to take part and we hope that we can fit you in somewhere; we obviously cannot include everyone but we will always try and take care of the people that support us.
